DESCRIPTION: Medium red-brown with lighter red to purple veining. Grain is straight to interlocked. Its texture moderately coarse but even. Also known as African Rosewood.
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Africa (Cameroons, Gabon & the Congo)
BOTANICAL NAME: Guibourtia Demeusei
WORKING PROPERTIES: Works easily with hand or power tools. Pre-drilling required for nailing. Gluing can be difficult due to gum pockets. Stains easily & can be brought to an excellent finish. The stock is moderately hard & heavy it saws without difficulty & finishes well.
USES: Primarily used as a veneer for cabinetwork, furniture & paneling. Also used for knife handles & fancy goods.
