DESCRIPTION: Very expressive wood, moderately coarse with swirling, irregular grain patterns, which can be slightly associated with apples, highly decorative character, very rare & exclusive. Medium red-brown with lighter red to purple veining. Grain is straight to interlocked. Also known as African Rosewood.
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: West Africa- Cameroon, Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gaboon
BOTANICAL NAME: Guibourtia Demeusei
WORKING PROPERTIES: Works easily with hand or power tools. Pre-drilling required for nailing. Gluing can be difficult due to gum pockets. Stains easily & can be brought to an excellent finish. The stock is moderately hard & heavy it saws without difficulty & finishes well.
USES: Primarily used as a veneer for cabinetwork, furniture & paneling. Also used for knife handles, fancy goods, high class interior design, musical instruments & luxury items.
