DESCRIPTION: The sapwood is white to light brown in color & blends gradually into the heartwood. The heartwood is reported to be well defined & its color is a light, variegated olive-brown, or may range from light brown to oatmeal color, and is sometimes grayish. The grain varies from straight to interlocked. It is very irregular. The texture is very fine & uniform.
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Central America: Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Panama & Venezuela
BOTANICAL NAME: Calycophyllum candidissimum
WORKING PROPERTIES: Respond satisfactorily to machine tools in most operations, including planing to yield relatively good worked surfaces. Gluing, nailing & screwing properties are reported to be good. The wood has excellent finishing & polishing characteristics. Respond well to hand tools.
USES: Fishing rods, picker sticks shuttles, tool handles, turnery, shafts/handles, sills, specialty items & sporting goods.
