DESCRIPTION, COUNTRY OF ORIGIN & USES: A member of the grass family from Central America & Southeast Asia. The wood is a reddish brown & has a pronounced face & end grain. As such it is basically a bundle of small straws that are fibrous. There are not any growth rings visible. The wood is difficult to work but can produce some very nice pens, bottle stoppers, decorative pull knobs & end grain book matched inlayed box tops. Dried stock that is generally surfaced on two sides or more. Wax sealed ends are common. Use a good CA glue to stabilize your turned article when you have sanded smooth with 100 grit and then let the glue dry for several hours and then finish sand.
