While the petrified redwood trees are famous for being as hard as rocks, a real redwood tree grown for lumber & decking purposes is one of the softest woods available. Not prone to checking & splitting. Despite being one of the lightest of softwoods. Provides adequate strength for a wide variety of uses.

BOTANICAL NAME: Sequoia sempervirens.
WORKING PROPERTIES: Easily machined, easy to saw & nail & has superior gluing properties as well as superior finish-holding ability. It is known for its easy maintenance & beautiful color: deep reddish brown that darkens with age.
