DESCRIPTION: Known for its extremely fine & even grain, its flexibility & strength in proportion to its weight. Is a species of wood whose lumber can be used in a variety of ways. Slow growth, dense fiber & natural oily extractives are responsible for its decay resistance & its rich coloring, which ranges from a light milky straw color in the sapwood to a vanilla-chocolate in the heartwood. It is a stable wood that season easily & quickly, with a very low shrinkage factor. It is free of pitch & has excellent finishing qualities. Fresh cut, this wood appears a salmon pink color which turns a coffee brown over time. Species is generally straight grained.
