DESCRIPTION & USES: Heartwood ranges from grayish-brown to dark brown. The sapwood is narrow & light brown to brown in color. Cuts with that originated from wide growth rings display an intriguing figure. Grain is usually straight, though spirals can be present. Texture is somewhat coarse. Truly irreplaceable material. Small burrowing insects give this domestic lumber species its "wormy appearance." As a testament to the wood's durability, Chestnut wood is highly resistant to decay. Because of this is a rare hardwood, you can find it in high end pieces such as decorative picture frames, furniture & cabinets.

WORKING PROPERTIES: Somewhat easy to work with either hand or power tools. Pre-drilling is required nailing & screwing. Glues well. Can be polished & stained to a very good finish.
